Our Journey

Sustainable Woodworks traces its roots back to S.R. Nicholas Ltd, the oldest building company in Malawi, established on April 1, 1958. Founded by Mr. Umberto Bizzaro and his partner Mr. Sean Robert Nicholas, it stemmed from Mr. Bizzaro's passion for construction and his belief in the potential of the emerging nation. Over the years, S.R. Nicholas Ltd cultivated a Carpentry/Joinery Division, recognizing the significance of quality craftsmanship in building finishes. In 2010, with the availability of treated rubber wood and a commitment to investing in modern equipment, Mr. Bizzaro's sons embarked on a new chapter, establishing Sustainable Woodworks as an independent entity. Today, they continue the founder's vision of delivering enduring quality and value, offering furniture that can be cherished across generations.

Handmade in Malawi

All our products are made and assembled by our team in Malawi. Our team is 120+ employees strong. Malawi has a rich history of woodworking, with skilled artisans using locally sourced wood. Handmade wooden furniture in Malawi is often made using traditional techniques passed down through generations, with a focus on quality and attention to detail. Whether it's a chair, table, or cabinet, each piece of furniture is unique and tells a story of Malawi's rich craftsmanship.

Sustainable Woodworks has added to this rich heritage with state of the art wood working equipment as well as highly qualified technical skills sourced from some of the biggest industry players in the region.
